Just outside the dungeon gate sits a quiet little tavern where adventurers gather before and after their expeditions. Inside, the fire is always warm, the food is surprisingly good, and the tavern keeper is always willing to listen.

Young adventurers arrive full of confidence, spreading maps across the tables and planning their glorious victories. They speak of treasure, powerful monsters, and the legendary rewards waiting deep within the dungeon. Hours later they often return with very different stories — tales of triggered traps, chaotic retreats, questionable decisions, and the kind of narrow escapes that are far funnier after a good meal.

The tavern keeper listens to them all. While the adventurers argue over what really happened in the dungeon, he quietly prepares dishes made from ingredients most cooks would never dare to use. Crispy cave crab, glowing mushroom soup, salamander stew, and other delicacies slowly simmer in the kitchen while stories fill the room.

To the adventurers, he’s just a friendly old cook who runs the last tavern before the dungeon. A place to rest, laugh about mistakes, and gather the courage to try again tomorrow.

What they don’t realize is that the rare ingredients behind the bar don’t arrive by merchant cart.

Late at night, after the tavern grows quiet and the last story fades away, the tavern keeper gathers his empty jars and walks toward the dungeon himself.

After all, tomorrow’s menu won’t gather its own monsters.
